During our fellowship year at the Royal Academy of Music, we are excited to be collaborating with Netley Primary School and the RAM composition department on this unique project.

Over the course of the year, we will be using Janacek's wind sextet Mladi as the stimulus for a number of workshops with the pupils at Netley. We aim for Mladi, meaning 'youth', to inspire the pupils to compose their own creative pieces based on real life experiences and emotions, in the same way that Janacek drew on playground taunts and nursery rhymes to form the main themes of his sexet.

The project will culminate in a collaborative concert on 25th May, 2018. The programme will comprise of a performance of Mladi, and also a number of sextet miniatures by Royal Academy of Music composers, who will have used the Netley pupils' compositions to inspire their own new works.
